Thorndike, Edward L(ee)
(31 ago. 1874, Williamsburg, Mass., EE.UU.–9 ago. 1949, Montrose, N.Y.) Psicólogo estadounidense.

Se formó bajo la dirección de William James y James McKeen Cattell y después ejerció la docencia en la Universidad de Columbia (1904–40). Pionero en el campo del aprendizaje animal y la psicología educacional, desarrolló una forma de conductismo conocida como coneccionismo, que sostiene que el aprendizaje se produce por nexos de asociación. Contribuyó en gran medida al desarrollo de métodos cuantitativos experimentales y de métodos de enseñanza más eficientes y con base científica. Entre sus obras se cuentan Introduction to the Theory of Mental and Social Measurements [Introducción a la teoría de la medición mental y social] (1904), Principles of Teaching Based on Psychology [Principios de enseñanza basados en la psicología] (1906), Inteligencia animal (1911) y The Psychology of Wants, Interests, and Attitudes [La Psicología de las carencias, intereses y actitudes] (1935).
